Waste picking is certainly a useful activity, but when living conditions are as dismal as near the Phnom Penh dumpsite one may think twice about a brutal profession which includes vast risks to the well being of those who are doing it.
The waste pickers are having a hard time to find valuable items inside the trash that is brought out to the Dangkor dumpsite as already most valuables have been pulled out by the urban Phnom Penh street collectors.
Every now and then it is a better day for the waste picker families when Pastor Sihok and his team are coming to the huts in order to deliver some badly needed medicine.
